Zune HD Battery Life

The Zune HD is powered by Nvidia Tegra and Microsofts brand new Zune 4.0 operating system. These improvements not only speed up processing time, but supposedly it will increase the overall battery life by 1.5x to 2x when compared to the latest Zune mp3 player.

Zune HD Battery Life

Nvidia has stated that the Tegra can play music continuously for 25 days!

“Now that’s what I call battery life!”

The Tegra is also capable of playing high-definition video for over 10 hours! Compare that to portable DVD players which roughly last 3 to 4 hours when playing video.

One other promising note is that the Zune HD uses an OLED screen versus a TFT-LCD, which will help reduce overall battery consumption.

What are your thoughts?

Very nice. If there really is a 64GB Zune HD, I’m down for sure. I like my Creative Zen X-Fi a lot, but I’m ready for a touchscreen device and Zune HD may be the very thing. To me, it’s a fullblooded music/video device and not an entertainment device like the iPod Touch, which is a little too fancy for me. I hope Microsoft tries to promote the Zune HD with a really competitive price–although if it’s a 64GB, I’m sure it makes no difference for my wallet.

    mq1986,

I couldn’t agree with you more. I think Microsoft is recognizing the void of HD video abilities on smaller portable devices and is looking to capture the market.

The 64GB would be great for storing lots of HD video. I just hope there is someway to easily transfer Tivo recorder programs to the Zune HD…that would be awesome!

Imagine: ZuneHD with touchscreen (check), wifi (check), HD output (check), 64GB ( unsure), OneApp store (theory), ZunePass (check), 2d/3d games (check/unsure), c# developers can create games (2d only), apps (unsure) and 3d games (unsure)…all that would be left would be a (sim-swapable) phone to finally consolidate all devices into a single one. Zune would then be able to not only compete, but dare I say, rule!

it’s meaningless to say a chip can do anything for any number of hours unless you also specify what’s powering it. will the zune play HD video for 10 hours? no. will the battery life be 25 days for music? no. this is just hype.

my first day with my zune hd 32g, working on a full charge it lasted 8 hours playing music before it died. i’m totally not complaining though, it’s the best!

My zune HD 32 went dead after 9 hours of music and playing texas hold em. I am complaining, I thought the battery was supposed to last a lot longer. I wonder if I got a dud? or is this what’s to be expected.

I’ve had my zune for 2 days and charged it full after only lasting about 9hrs just playing audio.

I turned off my wireless and it seems to last longer

Turn off wireless. Leave the Zune HD. Don’t mess with it. Leave the music player running. And what do you know? 25 days. Sure, that’s fine. But who DOESN’T touch the HD for 25 days? Surely, it’s a pretty redundant statement… but I must say, it did catch my eye, and I liked what I read. So hey. What they did worked.
